ALF  Apprenticeship Program

Our apprenticeship program offers a 6-month, paid opportunity for 3 candidates looking to fully immerse themselves in learning about regenerative agriculture. From holistic livestock management, to vermicompost and soil fertility, this program aims to provide you with a truly educational experience and leave you with the knowledge and skills of working a regenerative farm.

Over your 6-month stay, you will spend 80+ hours with each department on the farm-- gaining an in-depth understanding of how our farm functions and incorporates ecology into agriculture. Your work will look just like ours— extremely labor-intensive and rewarding.  We are looking for people who have a deep interest in regenerating and establishing relationships with the land; the ideal candidate is a hard-working individual that is eager to learn, works well within a community, and perseveres through difficult situations.

Check out our frequently asked questions here for more information about program specifics. *Please note: Candidates must be at least 21 years old.

Schedule

Our program runs two times a year: the Spring/Summer 2021 program is March 28th-September 25th 2021 and the Fall/Winter 2021/22 program is September 26th, 2021- March 26th, 2022.

During your stay you’ll work 6 days a week, with the general schedule being Sunday through Friday 6:30am–4:00pm, and Saturdays off. A farm is of course a 24/7 job, so there will be certain days, or seasons (like lambing season) where hours will shift. The program requires a full commitment, including all holidays.

Below is an overview of the departments you’ll work with, as well as an example schedule

  • Poultry– Laying hens, meat chickens, laying ducks
  • Livestock– Cattle, sheep, pigs, horse, guardian dogs
  • Vermicompost/Composting- Compost tea, farm fertility
  • Vegetable Garden
